The FIGC confirms its support to Komen Italia in the fight against breast tumours. On the occasion of the 24th edition of the 'Race for the Cure', the biggest event in the world for the fight against breast tumours scheduled in Rome from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 May, in the Circo Massimo area, the FIGC will set up its own stand where some of the trophies won by the National team will be displayed, from the 1982 and 2006 World Cups to the 2021 European Championship Cup.
And the little ones will have the chance to meet Oscar, the mascot designed by Carlo Rambaldi, a puppy of a Maremmano-Abruzzese shepherd with a kind and friendly face that since June 2021 has accompanied the Azzurri in all their adventures and that a month ago in Naples made its official debut in the stands of the 'Diego Armando Maradona' stadium on the occasion of the match between Italy and England.
The FIGC will also, for the first time, form a team open to all that will take part in the Race on Sunday 7 May (to register for the FIGC team click here), the highlight of the event, which this year, in addition to the traditional 2 km walk and 5 km run open to all, will include for the first time an 8 km route reserved for competitive athletes.
Every day, from 10:00 to 20:00 CEST, in the more than 100 stands and dedicated spaces that Komen Italia will set up at the Circus Maximus it will be possible to take part free of charge in sports, fitness, healthy eating, psychological wellbeing, entertainment and conferences on health and prevention issues. The main element will be the Health Village, where free diagnostic screening examinations for female cancers will be offered, in particular to women living in socially or economically fragile conditions.
After the prize-giving ceremony, there will be two new introductions for this year’s edition, the 24th in total: the extended opening until 16:00 of the Race Village with music and entertainment by Radio Globo and the PinkNic, an open-air lunch in collaboration with Fondazione Campagna Amica to encourage healthy eating choices and preference for seasonal products.
In the Race Village, as always, there will also be a meeting area dedicated to the 'Women in Pink' - the true stars of the event. Thanks to their courageous testimonies and the sharing of their experiences, the Women in Pink have raised public awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and generated a cultural change in the approach to the disease over the years, transferring strength and hope to the 56,000 women in Italy who face breast cancer every year.
