The footballing world is mourning the loss of Giampiero Boniperti, who passed away yesterday evening at the age of 92. He is an emblem of Juventus; Giampiero played 443 times for the club between 1946 and 1961, winning 5 Scudetti and 2 Coppe Italia. He also made 38 appearances for the Azzurri, scoring 8 times. His debut for Italy came on 9 November 1947, and he participated at two World Cups: 1950 and 1954. As honorary President of Juventus, he entered the “Hall of Fame of Italian Football” in the “Directors” category, in 2012.

“The loss of Boniperti - said Gabriele Gravina, President of the FIGC - signals immense sadness for us. He was both an exceptional player and an impeccable director; one of the great figures of Italian football has left us. His competence, his style and his determination taught us all a lot, and we will never forget it.”
