In the aftermath of their second match of the round, which yesterday saw them beat Switzerland 3-2, the National Under 21s posed as a group on the pitch at the UBB Training Centre in Cluj-Napoca next to some recycling bins. A shot, the one taken before the morning training session, aimed at promoting 'Cleaner Air, Better Game', the campaign launched by UEFA on the occasion of the European Championships in Georgia and Romania and to which the FIGC adhered with the aim of raising awareness of the harmful effects of air pollution on public health.
The 'Cleaner Air, Better Game' campaign, which was also supported by the European Commission, plays a key role in promoting collective action to monitor and reduce carbon dioxide emissions during the European Under 21 Championship. Through the campaign, UEFA is sending a strong message to the football community and beyond that a cleaner future is not only desirable, but also achievable through collective action and commitment.
Throughout the tournament, UEFA, together with the Georgian and Romanian federations, will continue to prioritise environmental, social and governance principles in the operations of the event, in line with the strategic approach outlined for the tournament. In addition to introducing recycling bins and raising awareness of waste separation, the organisers are currently conducting an analysis on spectator mobility, closely monitoring the event's carbon footprint and minimising the use of generators for television broadcasts.
