Thirty-eight years after the tragedy that shocked the world beyond that of football, a meeting will be held on Monday 29 May to commemorate the European Cup final between Juventus and Liverpool, played at the 'Heysel' stadium in Brussels, and the ensuing massacre, with thirty-nine deaths among the spectators from that match.
The event will be held in the 'Mario Valitutti' conference room of the Football Museum from 10:00 CEST. Speakers will include the president of the Football Museum Foundation, Matteo Marani; the president of the Association of the Families of the Heysel Victims, Andrea Lorentini; the director of the Coverciano Federal Technical Centre, Maurizio Francini, and the former Juventus defender who played in that game, Sergio Brio. The meeting will be moderated by journalist Francesco Caremani and will also be attended by children from three schools, underlining the Football Museum's desire to promote the knowledge of football history among young people, with the aim of not letting people forget that tragedy. Students from two Florence sports high schools, 'Scuole Pie Fiorentine' and 'Gobetti-Volta', and the Sabaudia sports high school, 'Giulio Cesare', will also attend the meeting.
