A new relic at the Museum of Football: the pennant from Bosnia vs. Italy
The Azzurri’s 3-0 win in Zenica last November ensured a record streak of 10 straight wins for Head Coach ManciniTuesday, January 28, 2020
A historic relic linked to a National Team record has found a new home in the Museum of Football, which will now host the pennant received by Italy from the Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Association. The pennant has been signed by Mancini and was gifted to the Azzurri prior to their 3-0 win over Bosnia in Zenica on 15 November 2019 – a Euro qualifier success that secured a record streak of 10 straight wins for Italy.
By achieving this record, Mancini managed to beat Vittorio Pozzo’s previous streak of nine set from 1938 to 1939.
“It’s a great feeling to surpass a legend like Pozzo,” said the Head Coach after the game. “However, he won five trophies, including two World Cups. There’s still a long way to go but we’re happy.”
The victory against Bosnia, secured thanks to goals from Acerbi, Insigne and Belotti, meant that Italy were in Pot 1 for the Euro 2020 draw that took place last November in Bucharest.
The new artefact is located in the second room at the museum, where it is possible to find a collection of pennants from Italy’s matches, including those of the 2006 World Cup semi-final vs. Germany and Italy vs. Argentina at the 1982 World Cup. There are also some famous shirts, whether that be Maradona’s 1982 jersey, Alfredo Di Stefano’s Spain shirt or Pele’s.
