In the all-time National Men’s Team list, Immobile (17 goals and 57 appearances) has the most number of caps and goals currently in the squad. Goal number 17 came in Skopje, moving him ahead of Toni and Vialli, and closer to Bettega and Gilardino on 19, with Paolo Rossi in sight on 20. With regards to the number of appearances made, cap number 57 has brought him alongside Inzaghi, Gilardino and Panucci, and just three short of 60. Just behind is Donnarumma (56), who would catch Zenga (58) in two games' time should he play, in 4th place in the goalkeeper list, with Zoff (112) and Buffon (176) ahead of him as well.

DONNARUMMA / BUFFON RACE. It is interesting to see the race between Donnarumma and the current Azzurri Head of Delegation: Buffon hit 60 caps on 12 June 2006, the first World Cup game in Germany (Italy 2-0 Ghana), at 28 and a half years old; instead, the current number 1 of the National side could reach that milestone in 2023, just shy of his 25th birthday. That would mean he would have achieved it two years earlier, although equaling Buffon's record of 176 games for the Azzurri will be no easy feat.

NO STOPPING BARELLA. With Verratti (55), Insigne (54), Florenzi and Jorginho (49) all failing to add to their caps recently, Barella has been able to move closer to them, with 47 appearances to his name. After his debut in Genoa on 10 October 2018, he is closing in on celebrating five years in the Azzurri ranks, with an average of 9.4 games a year. He has played in 47 of the 55 Azzurri games since making his debut: in 2019 he was an unused sub in two fixtures with Liechtenstein; in 2020 he was rested for the two friendlies against Moldova and Estonia (playing the two Nations League fixtures that week); in 2022 he was out for the friendly with Turkey after the play-off game, and two friendlies games (out of five) in a never-ending June, as well as a friendly in Tirana in November; in 2023 he didn't take part in the away trip to Malta in March.
