The Women's National Team are back in action in the UEFA Women's Nations League against Spain in Salerno this week. There have been two previous games held in Salerno, even if the stadium used was the historic Stadio Vestuti, different to the one used, Stadio Arecchi, on Friday 27 October. It was in the first World Cup organised in Italy by the FIEFF (International Federation) in 1970, with the Women's team under the FIGCF, who run the early Women's leagues. Italy vs. Sweden was first played in Salerno with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Mella (15’) and Avon (68’); the Azzurre got to the final in Turin, but were beaten by Denmark. Six years later, there was also a friendly with Czechoslovakia, which ended 1-1, Mammina with the goal.
The Stadio Arechi has also hosted a game in the Women's University games in 2019, a 2-1 loss to Japan (goal from Goldoni).
Finally, the only game played in Malmo against Sweden was a 1-1 draw in a European qualifer in 1990.
